Chrysalis 150 x 100 cm acrylics and mixed media on canvas 2023
A chrysalis is the form a caterpillar takes before it emerges from its cocoon as a fully formed moth or butterfly. The chrysalis has hard skin that's left behind after the caterpillar sheds its soft outer skin.
This artwork is inspired by the significant transformation period we as humanity are experiencing. Economy is shifting, politics are strained, tragic wars are happining and change needs to take place - not least in how we treat the beautiful nature we live in.
It is almost as the base pillars that we have relied on for a long time are being liquidified.. to get ready to take a new form. Just like a caterpillar liquidifies itself in the chrysalis so it can become a beautiful big butterfly. Hope is wisdom.
